The Machines Arena: Review

Graphic Banner

"a top-down hero shooter where players clash in adrenaline-fueled combat."

TLDR:

  • Low player base

  • There is a good variety of heroes

  • Engaging game modes

  • The theme and graphics are clean

  • Easy to start playing

  • Bots provide a challenge

How to play

  • The game is free to play

  • You can play on PC, via the Epic Store or Android with apk on their website.

Game Loop

  • You'll need to create an account on the website first.

  • Loading the game, you'll log in with these details

  • The game has several game modes: PvP Quickplay, PvP Ranked, PvE Deathrun

  • In the PvE game, you are clearing waves per room.

  • As you clear rooms, you select more skills, stats, and weapons.

  • I played more of the PvP mode

  • In the PvP mode, there are two modes and four maps

  • The first mode is "Push Back", which is a "deliver the payload" style

  • The second mode is "detonation", where one team defends while the other teams try to bomb two plant sites

Hero stats for Riot

  • The key to victory is considering the team composition, with heroes split into three brackets: tanks, support, and assault.

  • Your heroes gives you 3 abilities and a basic attack.

  • The 3rd ability is a powerful ultimate

  • As you compete to complete the objectives, the maps offer different routes, allowing for some tactical play.

Intense battle

  • You will also find health packs around the map.

Game feel

  • Depending on which hero you select, the gameplay feels completely different.

  • The tank has a very “in your face” style of play. It wades through the enemies and takes a more active role in securing objects.

  • Assault and support are a bit more stand-off, clearing the way for the others to grab objectives.

  • Understanding your kit is essential to make sure you are caught off guard

  • The low player base can be frustrating if you are against a pre-made team vs your team of randoms. Team play has a massive impact on the game.

  • Both game modes are engaging enough for people to play the objective rather than defaulting to trying to get the most kills.

  • The maps are varied enough with enough choice that you have to think about pathing.

  • It is easy to pick up, which is good for new players; however, I am unsure of the “skill” depth for those looking to excel.

  • Graphics, animations and feedback are engaging and give a great sense of the chaos of battle.

Showcasing support abilities

  • It has custom lobbies and spectate, which help lend itself to tournament and competitive play.

Rating

  • Immersive battle experience

  • Playstyle to suit any occasion

  • There are plenty of opportunities for competitive play if the skill depth is shallow.

  • A low player base leaves you playing with bots often

  • Enjoyed and would recommend it.
